MindForge is pioneering the ways insurance and risk management professionals communicate. The company’s Construction LifeSaver training app for desktop/mobile was a collaborative effort to increase safety while reducing liability.
THE ASK
Jobsite danger is inherent to the day-to-day life of construction workers. Safety is non-negotiable. The Construction LifeSaver app was first started by in-house teams at MindForge. Later, it was handed off to us for creative and UX enhancements. We were happy to transform the shell received into a cohesive experience that workers would want to engage with—for personal safety and for the safety of their colleagues.
THE APPROACH
Training and certifications can prove overwhelming, if not pestering, for some workers. How could we incentivize them to get mandatory training done? Gamification. Fun awards and trackable progress encouraged users to keep going.
Our creative team completely redesigned the look and feel of the app without deviating from brand guidelines. What once felt preliminary suddenly became brighter, smarter, and more realized. Improving the UX experience made navigation clearer and more intuitive for the user. Much of this had to do with breaking down content into swipe-ready sections (especially important for usage across smaller screens like early iPhone versions).
Naturally, we wanted to get some authentic feedback on the prototype of our app experience. User testing among construction workers and other industry figures revealed strengths and weaknesses in wayfinding. These findings grounded new updates.
Construction LifeSaver will offer more courses through the MindForge platform. We’re excited about more work to come from this enduring partnership with those who know safety best.
The Outcome
We succeeded in bringing best-in-class safety training to jobsites across the country. The final app experience will be one that helps reduce injuries and fatalities on the job, plus the liability that comes with such tragedies. Interactive and VR elements make training exciting again compared to the monotonous, time-consuming training from yesteryear.
